Arbitrum Security Council Freezes $71 Million, Decentralization Boundaries Spark Controversy Again

BroadChainBroadChainTime: 2026-04-24

BroadChain News, April 24, 10:16 - The Arbitrum Security Council recently froze approximately 30,000 ETH (worth about $71 million), which were linked to the KelpDAO attack. This move has sparked a new round of discussions in the crypto industry about the essence of decentralization. Supporters argue that the Security Council, as a last resort, only intervenes in extreme cases, representing a community-authorized decentralized model.

Offchain Labs co-founder Steven Goldfeder pointed out that DAOs cannot participate in decision-making during emergencies because public discussions would essentially notify the attackers. Critics, however, worry that such intervention mechanisms could be used in other scenarios, such as regulatory or political pressure, with the core issue being who determines the boundaries of intervention.
