Bitcoin Investment Scam: Saipan Woman Sentenced to 71 Months for Defrauding Elderly Women
BroadChain News, April 28 - According to BeInCrypto, a woman from Saipan, USA, was sentenced to 71 months in federal prison for orchestrating a Bitcoin investment scam targeting elderly women. The 30-year-old Sze Man Yu Inos (also known as Yuki) approached elderly women in Saipan and Guam between November and January, falsely claiming to be a wealthy Chinese heiress and a successful Bitcoin investor. She gained their trust by treating them to meals and gifts before demanding money or Bitcoin investments.
The scam continued after Yuki left the Mariana Islands, with new victims emerging in Washington and California. David Porter, head of the FBI Honolulu office, noted that Yuki even forged a federal judge's signature to advance the scam and was ultimately convicted of wire fraud. The court also sentenced her to three years of supervised release, 100 hours of community service, and ordered her to pay $769,355.67 in restitution and $684,848.34 in criminal forfeiture.
