BroadChain has learned that on April 9, the Financial Times reported Meta has launched its first major AI model. This marks an initial test of the company's push to catch up with rivals like OpenAI and Google, following significant investments in talent and infrastructure spearheaded by CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
On April 8, Meta unveiled Muse Spark, describing it as a model "purpose-built" for its suite of products. While Zuckerberg acknowledged it may not yet match the most advanced systems from competitors, he stated it will power "smarter and faster" capabilities for Meta's virtual assistant, Meta AI.
Meta said the model will utilize content from Instagram, Facebook, and Threads to enable more personalized and visually rich responses.
The company also highlighted the model's strong potential in healthcare, noting collaboration with over 1,000 doctors to train it on generating detailed responses regarding nutrition and exercise. Leveraging this model, Meta AI will also introduce a "shopping mode" to help users compare prices.
According to benchmark results released by Meta, Muse Spark outperformed leading models from Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic in certain reasoning and multimodal tests.
