Currently, the practical threat of quantum computing to encryption systems remains largely theoretical, but mainstream blockchains have already made early preparations. The Ethereum Foundation launched a post-quantum Ethereum website in March, with L1 protocol upgrades expected to be completed by 2029; the Solana Foundation has deployed post-quantum digital signatures on its testnet; Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong established an independent advisory committee on quantum computing and blockchain security in January 2025.
