BroadChain News, April 24, 09:16, according to Bitcoinist, U.S. Indo-Pacific Command Commander, four-star Navy Admiral Samuel Paparo disclosed during a House Armed Services Committee hearing on April 22 that the U.S. military is currently running a Bitcoin node and conducting cybersecurity-related operational tests using the Bitcoin protocol. Paparo emphasized that this move is not for financial or reserve asset purposes but from a computer science perspective, viewing Bitcoin as a tool for network monitoring, protection, and "power projection."
During the hearing, Paparo stated that the Indo-Pacific Command's interest stems from "cryptography, blockchain, and reusable proof-of-work," considering these technologies as additional tools for protecting network security. He explicitly noted that the Bitcoin protocol "will persist," and its computer science characteristics have a direct impact on "power projection," but here "power" refers to network defense capabilities, not financial power. He added that, from a military application perspective, his interest in Bitcoin lies in "power projection as a computer science tool."
Paparo also mentioned that people are already using Bitcoin to protect digital property, and its design features, including proof-of-work, blockchain-based accountability, and cryptographic security, have "direct national security implications." He simultaneously expressed support for any measures that help maintain the dominance of the U.S. dollar. The previous day, he had made similar remarks during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing, describing Bitcoin as "demonstrating amazing potential as a computer science tool" and characterizing it as "peer-to-peer, zero-trust value transfer." As of press time, Bitcoin is trading at $77,689.
