BroadChain has learned that, according to a Bloomberg report on March 28, U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren has written to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. In her letter, she requested information on potential national security risks linked to Bitmain and drew attention to the company's business connections with the Trump family. The letter specifically calls for the disclosure of communications between Bitmain and Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr.
The report indicates that the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is running an investigation, dubbed "Operation Red Sun," to evaluate whether related mining hardware could be subject to remote control. U.S. regulators have previously voiced repeated concerns over the security of Bitmain's products. Federal authorities had also covertly probed whether the company's mining rigs could potentially be manipulated remotely to destabilize power grids.
It is noteworthy that American Bitcoin—a company with investment from Eric Trump—purchased 16,000 Bitmain mining rigs for $314 million in 2025. Bitmain has denied the allegations as false, while American Bitcoin has stated that its own security testing found no issues.
